Will Teeth Whitening work for Me?
Over the years, our teeth accumulate stains from coffee, wine, and various foods.
Whitening lightens existing tooth colour, but it only works on natural teeth. It never works on “false teeth” such as veneers, crowns, dentures, or fillings.
Sometimes teeth are not stained, but their enamel is thin or transparent, showing the yellowish inner tooth. In this case, teeth whitening might not be effective. You might need veneers instead.
Why Get My Teeth Whitened by a Dentist?
Whitening your teeth is a very safe procedure, but it’s best when supervised.
Over-the-counter products require use over time to achieve the same effect as a professional dental whitener. If you have misaligned teeth, the strips can whiten your teeth unevenly, unlike the tray system used by dentists. If you have undiagnosed decay or recession, over-the-counter products can increase sensitivity.

What is the Whitening Process?
Before you get your teeth whitened, be sure to schedule a general dental cleaning and exam for best results!
At your whitening appointment, we first ensure whitening is a safe treatment for you. We generally recommend at-home whitening trays since they tend to be safer and cause less tooth sensitivity than in-office treatments. This is because the trays don’t require the use of bright lights or heat.
We take impressions of your teeth and provide you with the custom fitted whitening trays and solution that you can take home and use at your convenience. The trays are custom-made to fit the shape of your mouth and provide gentle, even results while ensuring minimal irritation to your gums.
Once the trays are ready, we will have you back to explain the procedure fully. You then whiten your teeth at home over 10 days to 2 weeks.
Are there any Side Effects?
Infrequently, people experience discomfort in their gums; others develop sensitive teeth. These symptoms are temporary.
There is no evidence to suggest teeth whitening damages the tooth nerve or creates pain over time.
How to Keep Teeth White
You can maintain your beautiful whitened teeth by brushing, flossing, and rinsing daily.
Avoid staining foods and beverages like black teas/coffee, dark sauces, fruit juices, or dark chocolate. (Sorry, coffee lovers! Maybe try sipping it with a straw.)
We recommend you touch up your teeth with a few days of bleaching every six to 12 months, ideally after you have your regular teeth cleaning.
